TL;DR: inspect the port, try another cable, then stop if you smell burning.
-
Safety first
Unplug the charger. Work on a non-conductive surface. If the port smells burnt or looks melted, stop and book a bench diagnostic.
-
Inspect the USB-C port
Look for bent pins, lint, or a loose jack. Use a wooden toothpick — not metal — to gently clear debris.
-
Swap cable and charger
Try a known-good USB-C PD charger (65W+ for many laptops). A failing cable is the most common fix.
-
When to call a pro
If the port wiggles, only charges at an angle, or the board gets hot, the receptacle or PD controller may need rework. Book a Repair.
